What is a Healing Reaction?

"Avoiding your triggers isn't healing. Healing happens when your triggered and you're able to move through the pain, the pattern, and the story, and walk your way to a different ending." -Vienna Pharaon

As the Reiki flows through the energy pathways, opening and releasing any blocks, a healing crisis can occur.  Not everyone will experience a healing crisis, but it is a normal part of a Reiki experience to release negative energy from your mind, body, and spirit.  A healing crisis can last around 48 hours with a maximum of 72 hours. Reiki can release blockages very rapidly and if there are many energy blockages, it may feel uncomfortable, yet it is a positive sign that healing is taking place.  The way Reiki releases blocks and toxins can vary from person to person.  Symptoms can be exasperated and predominant for a brief time while the blocks and toxins are released.

Some symptoms that people experience are:

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue

  • Mild Flu-Like Symptoms

  • Cough

  • Increased Urination

  • Unprocessed Emotions Coming Up

  • Unexpected Crying

  • Feeling Negative or Down

  • Physical Pain

These are a normal part of releasing what is being healed by Reiki.  Once the block is fully released, the client will often feel much better.  If you do not experience a healing crisis, do not worry that a Reiki healing did not affect you or did not work, as your energy system is able to move the energy in a gentle way, causing no healing crisis to occur.

Important note: A healing crisis never includes a high fever or any other sign of serious illness, as it is not part of the healing crisis or side effects and medical attention should be sought.
